Precautions for pearlescent thermoplastics

  1. Polyolefin

Polyolefins have been stabilized with phenolic antioxidants before processing and molding, because titanium dioxide reacts with the phenolic antioxidants to make the color yellow. For products with high aging performance requirements, please choose treated pearlescent powder to greatly reduce the color change during processing and storage. 2. Polyvinyl chloride

Pearlescent pigments can be applied to soft and hard PVC. When choosing a stabilizer, make sure that the PVC is still very transparent after coloring and stabilizing treatment. The iron ions in the PVC formulation will cause the stability to decrease, so it is necessary to test the stability beforehand when using iron-containing pearlescent pigments.

3. Need to be dried before processing

Pearlescent pigments generally contain about 0.5% of adsorbed water. Hygroscopic plastics must be dried before use to keep the water content of the resin and pearlescent pigments within the specified limits. When preparing the color masterbatch of hygroscopic resin, it is very important to dry the raw material and the subsequent color masterbatch.

Pearlescent pigments can be used in any kind of thermoplastic. Any kind of molding method can have a good pearlescent effect. Generally, extrusion molding and injection molding are commonly used.
